One of the favourite small hotels in Devon
The Rockford Inn is one of the favourite small Hotels in Devon and lies in the remote Brendon Valley on Exmoor, one of the two great National Parks in the South West corner of England. The 17th century Inn is one of the cosiest Devon hotels and is a perfect retreat from the stresses of modern life.
Its a traditional Exmoor B&B country Inn near the border with Somerset and is popular with local farmers, ramblers and fishermen alike. We provide simple B&B accommodation at affordable prices and is a great place to stay for those wishing to explore the vast open expanses of Exmoor. The dramatic East Lyn River flows by the property as it carves its way through the wild moors of Exmoor down to the sea at Lynton and Lynmouth. The fast flowing river is a walker's paradise with waterfalls, rocky rapids, house-size boulders and deep green fern-lined pools. The National Trust Footpaths are well maintained as they parallel the water, through gorges and wooded valleys.
Lynton & Lynmouth Hotel
Just 4 miles up river from the seaside towns of Lynton and Lynmouth, The Rockford Inn Hotel provides comfortable rooms on a bead and breakfast basis surrounded by some of the UK's most beautiful landscapes. There are amazing country walks right on our doorstep. Whether it's up on the exposed, treeless moors, or along the South West Coast Path as it traverses some of England's highest sea cliffs. There are also many beaches nearby ideal for families with small children and equally appealing for surfers who flock here for the waves.
The East Lyn River is famed as one of the UK's best salmon and trout river, with permits to fish available at the bar. During the colder months salmon can be seen leaping the waterfalls or laying in the deep pools. If you are lucky they can be seen spawning in pebbly shallows. The gin clear water in the deep pools, although cold, attracts those who like outdoor natural swimming.
We provide tasty home cooked meals using seasonal foods, local brewed real ales and feature open log fires and wood burning stoves. We also offer comfortable accommodation in which to stay, where we offer Bed and Breakfast, with full or half board an option.
We are close to the seaside towns Lynton and Lynmouth, Porlock and Minehead. With Barnstaple, Ilfracombe, Saunton Sands, Coombe Martin and Braunton all within 30 minute drives.
The Rockford Inn, an informal, small & cosy, almost boutique hotel in Devon.
We pride ourselves on quality of service; from cleanliness, our friendly welcoming staff and of course the quality of Sarah's home-cooked foods.
"A Special Time Away"
"I stayed at the Rockford inn, so that I could spend some quality time with my Dad who lives overseas, we don't get to see each other very often and this was a special time for us both. Sarah and Cathryn have the perfect balance of excellent customer service and friendliness along with total respect for their guests individual needs and privacy. I had four days of exploring the beauty of Exmoor with my Dad, the place was beautifully located, everything under one roof for those who don't wish to venture too far and beautiful walks for those of us who enjoy them. The location itself has breathtaking scenery and the accomodation was both well presented and comfortable. The food was wonderful and we enjoyed breakfast and evening meals (which were extreamly reasonably priced - as were the drinks) for three days. Sarah is a magnificent chef and Cathryn a most pleasing host. I have very fond memories of my trip and would book again with no hesitation and totally recomend to anyone planning to stay in that area, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Such kind, friendly people, such a lovely place. On our last night we experienced very heavy rain, but found so much satisfation in sitting in front of a roaring open fire, eating a steak and having a glass of wine while the rain poured down outside - the Rockford inn shows Exmoor in it's real beauty - would certainly book again and highly recommend. thanks to Sarah, Cathryn and Tim who were part of the memory that made a very special trip."
