If you are coming from the East, there are two main routes

a) From the Bristol direction, take the A39 from Bridgewater (on the M5) towards Minehead. Go through Williton. Go through Minehead, stay on A39 towards Lynton. After Porlock you will come up a steep hill with a tight u-bend and then cross the open moor. You will see the Bristol Channel with great views to your right. After the second cattle grid it is 4.7 miles to the Brendon turning (signposted) on your left. This is a steep single track down into Brendon Valley. If you are nervous you may want to stay on the A39 and take the second turning down into Brendon which is a mile further along the A39 see route on map although it's just as steep just a little wider. At the bottom you will cross a narrow stone bridge. Turn right and go through the village of Brendon. Rockford is 1 mile further along the lane.

b) From Taunton (on the M5) follow the A358 towards Minehead. This eventually joins the A39 at Williton. Then follow the same directions as above. see route on map

If you are coming from the West

Going East from Barnstaple take the A39 towards Lynton. Go through the village of Barbrook, after about 2 miles turn right onto the B3223 towards Simonsbath. Almost immediately turn left up a steep single track. Follow this for 1 mile, turning left once more at the T-junction and this lane will bring you down into Rockford. see route on Map 

If you are coming from South Devon

Make your way to Tiverton. Pick up the A361 toward Barnstaple. After South Molton at the first roundabout take the A399 North, then turn right towards Simonsbath. At Simonsbath turn left onto the B3223. Follow the road towards Lynton, you will go across spectacular open moors with amazing views. Beware the wild exmoor ponies, grazing cattle and sheep. After the second cattle grid turn right and this lane will take you down a steep hill into Rockford see route on map
